Elder Abuse – Recognise, respond and explore risk

This webinar discusses the various ways elder abuse can present in general practice and explore ways to effectively recognise and respond to risk factors and signs that a patient may be suffering abuse.

GPs are often the first independent professional to see an elderly victim of abuse. However, a lack of awareness of elder abuse as well as GP time constraints can hinder a GP’s effectiveness in identifying and addressing cases of abuse. The victim’s potential reluctance to raise the issue can add to the challenge of detecting abuse is occurring.

Dr Libby Hindmarsh and Prof Sue Kurrle shed light on some interesting GP case studies to illustrate a whole of practice approach to managing different forms of elder abuse.
